Twenty five years ago, a young couple named Sam and Jane moved to the country with little more than passion and love for farming and good food, and took up farming a run down strawberry farm with their two small children in tow. Over the years they poured their hearts into working the land, growing the best quality fresh produce possible and opening up their farm to the local communities around them. As their farm grew, so did their knowledge of farming, along with their children. Their son Ben knew right out of highschool that he wanted to continue to farm along side his parents and after high school began pouring his own passion, enthusiasm and youthful energy into the farm. Sam and Jane's daughter Erin went off to university where she got a degree in history and psychology, as well as her Bachelor of Education. She then lived a year abroad where she realized just how much she missed and loved the farm she had grown up on, and eventually made her way home to join her parents and brother again on the farm.
With the next generation firmly committed to living, working and loving the farm the McLean's bought a second nearby farm, Buckhorn Berry Farm, where Ben now lives and farms with his wife, Jenny. The new generation has brought a renewed sense of vigor to the farm, and both generations now work hand to in hand to continue to grow and sell a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, maple syrup, homemade jams and preserves at local farmers markets, as well as at their on farm stores where they also have a PYO operation for strawberries and raspberries and host two on farm events through the season for maple syrup and pumpkins. Throughout the changes and growth the love for providing local communities with fresh, local, nutritious and delicious food has remained constant and they continue to strive to provide, improve, grow, and teach and inspire about fresh local food and farming for many years to come.
